Avid Mbox Mini Driver is the free and cross-platform installer which provides the drivers needed for using Mbox Mini with Pro Tools 9 (or later), Pro Tools LE 8.0.5, or third party applications.
Unfortunately, Avid stopped manufacturing the Mbox 2 series in 2010 and ended support for most of the series in September of 2015. While Avid is no longer releasing drivers that will allow the Mbox 2 series of devices to work with Pro Tools 12.0 and above, drivers that are compatible with Pro Tools 9, 10, & 11 can be found here. If you experiencing problems when using an Mbox 2 with Pro Tools 12.0 or higher, you will need to uninstall Pro Tools 12 and reinstall a compatible version. Click here for uninstall instructions.

Manually uninstalling Mbox 2 drivers on Mac:
Some Mac computers that have Core2Duo processors will experience problems with the Mbox 2 from Digidesign with the latest driver. To restore functionality, you will need to manually uninstall the Mbox 2 drivers and install version 10.3.3. Follow the instructions below to manually remove the drivers:
- Open Finder and navigate to Macintosh HD > System > Library > Extensions and move the following items to the trash:
- digiDal.kext
- digiIO.kext
- DigidesignMbox2.kext
- DigidesignMbox2Boot.kext
- Next, go back to Macintosh HD and open the Library folder.
- Navigate to Audio > Plug-Ins > HAL and move the following item to the trash:
- DigidesignCoreAudio.plugin
- Go back to the Audio folder and navigate to the MIDI Drivers folder, then remove the following item:
- DigidesignMbox2MIDI.plugin
- Go back to the Library folder, then navigate to Startupitems and move the following items to the trash:
- Digidesign Mbox2
- DigidesignLoader
- Next, go to your User Library. To access this, click on the Finder Go menu at the top of your screen and select Library (for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and later, you will need to hold the Option key on your keyboard to reveal the Library selection).
- Once in the User Library folder, go to the Preferences folder and move the following items to the trash:
- com.digi.ptools.plist
- DAE Prefs
- DigiSetup.OSX
- Pro Tools Prefs
- Finally, empty your trash and restart your computer. If you can’t empty the trash because some of the files are in use, restart your computer first, then empty the trash.
Now that you’ve manually uninstalled the Mbox 2 drivers, download and install version 10.3.3 of the Mbox 2 drivers. You can download them here (download should start automatically).
